On Saturday, 29 March 2025, the Benoni #FlyingSquad conducted a successful operation, arresting two suspects and recovering illicit goods valued at approximately R500 000.
While patrolling the N12 West near the Etwatwa off-ramp, members of the flying squad noticed a suspicious white Mercedes bus. After calling for backup, they intercepted the vehicle and discovered boxes containing vapes and hubbly tobaccos.
The suspects, aged 58 and 62, were unable to provide a valid explanation or proof of purchase for the goods and were subsequently arrested. One suspect attempted to bribe the officers with R10 000, resulting in an additional charge. The bus was impounded. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will appear before the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of illicit goods and bribery.
