A coordinated operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, SAPS Counter Intelligence Investigation Head Office, DPCI Gauteng Multi-Disciplinary Tracking Team, SAPS Gauteng TRT, SAPS Anti-Gang Unit, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, and Gemini Global Defense, successfully intercepted a syndicate responsible for courier robberies in Gauteng and neighboring provinces.
Intelligence was received regarding the suspects’ activities, and further information indicated that they had just committed a courier robbery in Soweto, stealing cell phones and other valuable items from a courier vehicle. The suspects were operating in three vehicles: an Audi A4 sedan, a Hyundai i20, and a Hyundai i10.
Law enforcement officers identified the white Audi A4 entering a yard and spotted the Hyundai i10 parked outside. Upon executing the operational plan, officers engaged the suspects, resulting in one fatality and the arrest of another suspect. Two unlicensed firearms and a stash of stolen cell phones were recovered.
The Hyundai i20 was also spotted, leading to a high-speed chase and shootout. In the exchange, three suspects were fatally wounded, and officers recovered two unlicensed firearms and additional stolen stock.
