A suspect is to appear in court after he was found with illicit cigarettes in Bloemfontein CBD.
On 25 October 2024 at about 09:00, the Parkweg Tactical Response Team reacted to intelligence-led information about a warehouse used to store illicit cigarettes.
On arrival at the warehouse in the Bloemfontein CBD, members met with a 41-year-old foreign national. The team searched the warehouse and found about 97 boxes of illicit cigarettes worth an estimated R1 900,000.
“This type of illegal activity is negatively affecting our economy; hence, we would like to applaud the vigilance of our members in responding to illegal activities of this nature,” said the Provincial Commissioner of Free State Province, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane.
The suspect was arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes and he will appear in the Bloemfontein magistrate court soon.
