The strategic deployment of our members along the entry and exit routes to and from the Western Cape Province to curb the lucrative drug trade proved to be successful when members attached to the Central Karoo K9 Unit in collaboration with Crime Intelligence, George DPCI and the Central Karoo Flying Squad acted on information which led to the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect in connection with the discovery of Khat to the estimated value of R89 000-00.
On Tuesday 15 October 2024 at 15:20, the members set up a vehicle checkpoint on the N1 national road in the Central Karoo area, en-route to Cape Town.
Based on the information received, the members pulled over a truck travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town and ensued with a search during which they discovered five boxes inside the driver’s compartment, containing 890 bundles of Khat.
