Breede Valley Municipality hereby notifies residents, businesses, commuters and all road users that an Abnormal Load Convoy (ALC) comprising of wind turbine material is anticipated to be transported through Worcester on 𝟏𝟕 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, outside peak hours. The transport forms part of a planned logistics operation.
However, due to road damage sustained during the adverse weather events experienced in May 2026, certain sections of the originally approved route have become inaccessible. Consequently, temporary deviations from the standard transport itinerary have been approved to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of the abnormal load.
𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲:
The ALC will travel along the following route:
– The convoy will enter the Convoy Control Zone on the N1 (Northbound carriageway) in the vicinity of Mountain Mill Mall and Golden Valley Casino.
– It will proceed along the N1 to the N1/High Street (Meirings Park) interchange.
– The convoy will then turn right into High Street and continue to the High Street/R60 (Robertson Road) intersection.
– At this intersection, the convoy will turn left onto the R60 (Robertson Road) and continue towards the Transhex Circle, where the Convoy Control Zone will conclude.
– The convoy will thereafter proceed towards its final destination.
The movement of the abnormal load will be undertaken under the supervision of authorised traffic officials and escort vehicles. Motorists should expect temporary traffic delays, intermittent road closures, rolling stop-and-go traffic control measures and reduced travelling speeds along the affected route while the convoy is in transit.
To minimise delays, road users are encouraged to make use of the following alternative routes where possible:
– Residents from Roux Park can make use of De La Bad Road to get into town.
– Residents of Panorama and Van Riebeeck Park can make use of Roux Road to get into town
– Motorists leaving or who intend to go to the Industrial Area can make use of Perkins Drive to Robertson Road.
– Residents of Meirings Park will have to be alert to the times that the abnormal loads will be passing Meirings Park, as there is no alternative route for them.
𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨:
– Exercise patience and caution throughout the operation;
– Comply with all instructions issued by traffic officers and authorised personnel;
– Refrain from overtaking or following the convoy too closely; and
– Allow sufficient travelling time where the affected route forms part of their journey.
Emergency vehicles and essential services will be afforded access at all times.
𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
To safely accommodate the transportation of the abnormal load, certain municipal infrastructure may need to be temporarily adjusted, lifted or removed along the route. This may include traffic signals, overhead electrical and communication lines, road signage, street furniture, road kerbs and other affected infrastructure. All affected infrastructure will be reinstated to its original condition as soon as practically possible following the completion of the transport operation.
Residents and businesses situated along the route are requested to refrain from parking vehicles within the affected areas during the scheduled transport period and to remove any obstructions that may impede the safe passage of the convoy. Please note that the transport schedule remains subject to prevailing weather conditions, operational requirements and safety considerations.
Should any changes become necessary, updated information will be communicated through the Municipality’s official communication platforms.
As BVM, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and sincerely appreciate the patience, understanding and cooperation of all residents and road users as this specialised transport operation is undertaken in the interest of public safety.
