The Police in Calcutta made a measure breakthrough by arresting two suspects who are allegedly masterminds in the spate of truck jacking incidents carried out on the R40 Road, as well as other robberies previously committed in the area of Calcutta. The two suspects appeared at the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 21 December 2023 after being charged on Wednesday, 20 December 2023.

According to a report, Police Investigators at Calcutta were busy probing and tracing suspects for the reported robbery cases in their area. The investigation led them to an abandoned house in Marite outside Hazyview whereby two suspects were apprehended then later charged.

The two are faced with a total of about seven incidents of armed robberies, of which sum are related to the hijacking of delivery trucks on the R40 Road that were committed in November and December 2023

During the court appearance the two suspects, Keabeletswe Mohlala (20) and Thulani Ngutshane (26) the Magistrate postponed the case to 27 December 2023 a for a formal bail application meanwhile the two remained in custody.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has hailed the breakthrough made. “We observe this development with great excitement because we have been so much concerned with the robberies that were previously committed whereby delivery vehicles were targeted by perpetrators and we hope more arrests will be made. The arrest of the two is a step in the right direction and we commend the handwork made by the members,” said the General.
