The N2 is currently open to traffic in both directions. This temporary reopening is in effect until the arrival of a specialized replacement truck from Cape Town, which will be used to extract the hazardous materials from the vehicle.
Residents who were evacuated from within a 1km radius of the incident site have been informed that they may return to their homes. They must, however, be prepared for potential re-evacuation once the extraction process begins.
Please be advised that the N2 will be closed again once the replacement truck arrives and the extraction operation begins. We will provide further updates regarding the road closure and extraction timeline as soon as it becomes available.
