Inter-agency collaboration highlighted a significant success leading to the apprehension of suspects involved in serious criminal activities, including impersonating police officials and possession of stolen property, in City Deep, Johannesburg.

On Thursday, 03 July 2025, information was received regarding a truck linked to a business robbery as per the SAPS Middleburg case. This critical intel was swiftly shared and operationalised through a collaborative effort involving the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Tactical Response Unit, South African Police Service (SAPS), Crime Intelligence and private security.

The intelligence-led operation quickly located the identified truck at Pomona Road, where two Zimbabwean nationals were found. Their statements led the operational team to Joburg Market, City Deep. Upon arrival, officers encountered two individuals who falsely claimed to be police officials from the Hawks and attempted to obstruct the investigation.

Further investigation revealed that one of the individuals, an SAPS Warrant Officer, was unable to provide a legitimate explanation for his presence. The other individual, a female, claimed to be an informant for the Hawks but failed to provide valid details. Video footage from the premises clearly showed both individuals involved in the delivery and collection of 36 pallets of stolen maize meal, which had been previously reported in connection with the business robbery.

The recovered maize meal was successfully returned to its rightful owner.

The duo was arrested, and they face charges including possession of stolen property, defeating the ends of justice, and impersonating a police official as per the SAPS Moffatview case.

This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment to combating crime through intelligence-led policing and robust inter-agency cooperation. The JMPD commends the dedication and swift action of all role players involved in bringing these suspects to justice.
