A joint operation was held by the Pietermaritzburg Trio Task Team, Mountain Rise SAPS, Magma Security, and other security companies on Saturday night until the early hours of Sunday, 21 August 2022. The team was following up on information about a horse and trailer truck loaded with sugar that was hijacked at Willowton in Pietermaritzburg.
The team proceeded to Pentrich in Pietermaritzburg where a load of sugar was suspected to be hidden at a warehouse. Upon entering the premises, a trailer with 28 tons of sugar was recovered. Further, the inspection was done at the premises and a container with 410 bakkie tires valued at three million was found. The tires were stolen in Durban this month.
Police also found a load of curtain material valued at three and a half million rands that were stolen at Brighton Beach this month. All the recovered items were handed back to the rightful owners. Investigations are still ongoing and police are still searching for the suspects.
