Six (6) store managers were arrested by Operation Vala uMgodi team during Second-hand Goods Compliance inspection in Free State. The operation which was executed in Koppie Allen, Mooi and Jan Hofmeyer Street areas led to confiscation of various contraband goods; illicit cigarettes and prohibited medicinal products.
Different cigarette brands such as Blue Chief, Remington Gold, Savanah Green, Boss, Sahawi, Ossam; and hubbly flavors such as Afzal mint, F1, VIP and Sniper were found inside supermarkets and storage houses. Medical products such as Betasol, Beneks, Diproson, Epiderm, Tummeric essential oils, Coco pulp cream, Caro light cream were confiscated by the police. The total sales value of contraband cigarettes and medicinal products seized is estimated at R235 855-00.
Case dockets for Possession of illicit cigarettes and Contravention of Medicine Act 101 of 1965 were opened at Welkom Police Station. The six (6) foreign nationals from both Bangladesh and Ethiopia, aged between 30 and 51, will appear before Welkom Magistrate Court soon.
