KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal – A daring and violent cash-in-transit heist took place earlier today on the M25 KwaMashu Highway, between Duffs Road and KwaMashu Cross Roads. Approximately 12 African male suspects, heavily armed with high-caliber weapons, ambushed a cash truck in a meticulously planned attack.

According to eyewitness reports, the suspects, traveling in two vehicles, used rapid gunfire to forcefully halt the cash truck. The security officers aboard the vehicle were disarmed of their firearms and removed from the truck as the criminals prepared explosives. A powerful blast was detonated, allowing the suspects to access the cash inside the truck. In the midst of the robbery, the suspects fired shots at nearby motorists and metro officials who were attending to an accident scene further up the highway.

As the M25 was brought to a standstill, emergency services were unable to access the scene immediately. The suspects made a quick getaway, evading capture. In the aftermath, the KZNVIP SWAT teams responded promptly, securing the area and calling for immediate medical support. 3 security officers sustained injuries from the explosion and were swiftly attended to by KZNVIP paramedics.

The scene was cordoned off and handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Hawks for further investigation and processing. Authorities discovered multiple spent high-caliber cartridges at the scene, as well as a 9mm revolver. All emergency services were present and coordinated in response to the incident.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the suspects or the heist to come forward.
