Yesterday evening a truck driver was killed, and his passenger critically injured after a collision on Marlboro Drive, between Zinnia and Southway, in Marlboro Gardens – north of Johannesburg.
Just before 6pm last night EMER-G-MED’s M06 and I01 were dispatched to the horror scene.
On arrival paramedics found that a truck had collided with a tree, allegedly after it’s brakes failed. The truck was shredded by the tree, with pieces of the truck’s frame and it’s front axle found over 50 metres away.
Unfortunately on assessment it was found that the driver had sustained multiple fatal injuries. He was declared dead on the scene.
The passenger had been ejected from the vehicle and was found lying in the middle of the road, upwards of 10 metres away from the wreckage, having sustained serious head, chest and abdominal trauma. Paramedics stabilised the patient on-scene before he was transported to a nearby specialist Trauma hospital under Advanced Life Support care.
JMPD’s specialist Accident Investigation Unit were on the scene to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the collision.
