Two suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property following the interception of a fuel tanker in the Middelburg CBD on Monday, 26 October 2026.

On the said day, members of the Police from the Nkangala Anti-Hijacking Task Team were performing stop-and-search duties in the Middelburg CBD at about 22:00 when they spotted a white Mercedes-Benz tanker truck moving slowly along Walter Sisulu Street, near Mandela Drive in Middelburg.

The vehicle was stopped with two male occupants. Upon searching the truck, members discovered that it was carrying about 16 000 litres of diesel.

The occupants were requested to produce proof of purchase, permits or documentation authorising them to transport the fuel, but they failed to do so.

It was during this period that the two men, aged 20 and 27, were subsequently arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.

The seized exhibits include the Mercedes-Benz tanker, valued at about R850 000.00, and the 16 000 litres of diesel, valued at around R480 000.00.

The suspects are expected to appear at the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, commended the members for their vigilance and alertness, which led to the recovery of the suspected stolen fuel and the arrest of the suspects.
