At 08h07 Netcare 911 Paramedics responded to a collision on Van Reenens pass. Reports from the scene indicate that the vehicle started running away at the top of the pass, it then veered off the road while rounding a bend and plunged 200 meters down a cliff.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the driver had jumped from the vehicle as it left the roadway, his female passenger stayed in the truck and tragically died on impact at the foot of the mountain. Paramedics treated the seriously injured man at the scene before he was transported to a nearby hospital for the care that he required.
