The multi-disciplinary team comprising of various units and members of South African National Defence Force conducted an intelligence driven operation at Diphale illegal mining site in Sekhukhune District on Wednesday 17 July 2024.
The team found two suspects in the act of illegal mining activities. The duo was arrested on the spot and charged with possession of suspected stolen raw minerals.
Their ages ranges between 37 and 38. The operation was also focusing on trucks that are illegally transporting stolen raw minerals.
The team confiscated the following items:-
– 02 × Horse and trailer loaded with chrome.
– 01 × TLB
– 02 × Jack Hammers
– 01 × Welding machine
– 01 × shovels
– 03 × Drilling bits and
– 01 × Slasher
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has lauded the investigating team for the remarkable breakthrough for arresting the suspects and confiscation of the equipment, further reiterating that illegal mining is having a negative impact on the economy of the province.
The arrested suspects will appear before Moroke Magistrate’s Court soon.
