On Thursday, 05 December 2024, at about 11:30, information was received and operationalised regarding a person who had made arrangements with a logistics company to transport steel from Nelspruit to Germiston. Particulars of the truck were forwarded to the investigating officer.

Nelspruit based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Fidelity Security, Flying Squad, and Tactical Response Team were involved in the operation. The team kept observation through GPS Coordinates.

Two vehicles, a Hyundai bakkie loaded with three cut railway tracks, and a white UD truck, horse, and trailer loaded with more railway tracks were found and seized and the two drivers arrested, charged and detained at Sabie.

They are expected to appear before the Sabie Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 09 December 2024. Suspects are in custody.

The Provincial Head Major General Gerber commended the swift action of the team. He appreciated that the public provided the information that led to the arrest. The constant looting and destruction of infrastructure hampers the government’s efforts to boost the economy and provide services.
