Around 10 pm on Thursday evening ALS Paramedics from our Pietermaritzburg Operation responded to a horrific crash on the N3 North Bound near Market Road offramp.

Initial reports were that multiple Trucks, buses, and cars were involved. Paramedics arrived on the scene to find carnage as they found that two trucks and a fully laden bus had been involved in a rear-end collision on the national highway. On impact, the vehicles caught alight. The Pietermaritzburg Fire Department worked to fight the blaze whilst Paramedics triaged and treated multiple casualties.

At this stage it is believed both the bus driver and truck driver have passed away due to the severity of their injuries. Approximately twenty patients were treated on scene for various injuries by multiple Ambulances before they were transported to various Pietermaritzburg Hospitals for the further care that they required.

The roadway will remain closed whilst emergency personnel work to clear the scene.

At this stage the events leading up to the crash is unknown however all necessary authorities were in attendance and will be investigating further.
