Two alleged vehicle hijackers were fatally wounded in a shootout with police earlier today, 15 June 2025 at Qonce.
The Tactical Response Teams based in OR Tambo and Chris Hani with their Reece team followed up on information about a Toyota Quantum minibus which was hijacked in Qonce on Sunday, 15 June 2025. The minibus was spotted at Darhabe locality towards Elliotdale.
When officers attempted to stop it, the driver accelerated but was eventually cornered. As the two male suspects tried to flee, they opened fire on the police. Both suspects were fatally shot in the exchange. Officers recovered two 9mm pistols with erased serial numbers, one from each suspect.
