On Monday night, IPSS Medical Rescue responded to reports of a taxi accident on the N2 northbound just before the Ballito offramp.
According to eye witnesses, a loose tyre and rim from a truck travelling south, struck the taxi head on, causing it to lose control, the tyre went on to hit a second vehicle.
Two occupants from the taxi sustained critical injuries, and were stabilised on scene by IPSS Medical Advanced Life Support before being transported to hospital for the care required.
A further 10 occupants sustained minor injuries, who chose not to be transported to hospital.
The occupants of the second vehicle were fortunate to escape with no injuries.
The N2 Northbound was closed to allow emergency personnel to work.
