A man, believed to be in his 30s, was left seriously injured this afternoon when a truck rear-ended another on the N3 northbound highway near the Market offramp in Pietermaritzburg.
ER24 personnel, along with Provincial Services, arrived on the scene at the 13h05 to find both trucks in the right-hand lane.
Un closer inspection, paramedics found a man, believed to be in his 30s, lying trapped inside the cab of his truck. Assessments showed that he was in a serious condition.
Rescue Services had to use specialized equipment to free the man from the wreckage. Once freed, the patient was treated for his injuries and provided with pain-relief medication before he was transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for further treatment.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
