Through Operation #NenzaniLaEzweni, a Zimbabwean national truck driver has been arrested by the No Nonsense team from Road Traffic Inspectorate.
He was nabbed driving a defective truck in Durban along the N3. RTI found the truck with no powder extinguisher which should be mounted externally in an easily accessible bracket.
The MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma explained:
“The underrun bar of the truck was insecure posing a danger of falling. He was also occupying the far right lane (Shesha lane) which is restricted to heavy motor vehicles.
“This truck has been impounded. And we are waiting for the owner who must answer certain questions. It is illegal for a foreigner to be employed as a truck driver by the South African company without the necessary work permit or special permit/visa. We have had so many horrific accidents involving trucks driven by foreign nationals with no South African papers. And they always dissapear after an accident. The time for impunity is over.”
