The Border Management Authority has made a major breakthrough after intercepting a truck attempting to smuggle explosives worth about R1 million into South Africa at Beitbridge.
The explosives, often used in cash-in-transit robberies and illegal mining, were discovered after alert BMA officers grew suspicious and worked with SARS to scan the vehicle using advanced technology. The scan revealed a hidden compartment containing the explosives.
The driver tried to flee but was quickly arrested. Further investigations by SAPS are underway.
