On Saturday evening at 19h03 Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on the R603 in the Lovu Township on the Natal south coast. Reports from the scene indicate that a truck traveling on the R603 towards Winklespruit collided head-on with a Toyota vehicle. Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that after impact the truck veered off the roadway pushing the car for about 100 metres through a settlement destroying everything in its path. The vehicle was found wedged under the truck with four occupants still trapped in the vehicle.
Tragically three was found to have died before our arrival and one man was in a critical condition. Medics worked fervently to stabilise the man but he to tragically died before we could extricate him from the wreckage.
Firemen used the jaws of life to try and extricate the four people, in the end a heavy-duty tow truck and crane had to be used to pull the truck off the car and allow the firemen to extricate the people.
