Members of the media are hereby invited to join the Minister of Transport, Ms. Barbara Creecy on Thursday, 24 October during an oversight visit to the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL’s) Western Region, with a site inspection of the Huguenot Tunnel control room, toll plaza and the soon to be constructed second tunnel, the North Bore.

SANRAL is upgrading the tunnel in keeping with international safety standards, as well as meeting the mobility demands of the significantly increased traffic volumes that come with urban development.

At 3.9km, the Huguenot Tunnel is the longest road tunnel in Africa, has been in operation for 36 years and has seen more than 125 million vehicles pass through to date.
