The National Department of Transport will on Tuesday, 27 June 2023 join the international community in commemorating the 2023 International Seafarers’ Day.

The International Day of the Seafarers recognises seafarers’ contribution in protecting the maritime environment. The 2023 International Seafarers Day theme: “MARPOL at 50-Our commitment goes on,” places emphasis on sustainable shipping practices and aims to honour seafarers’ dedication at sea.

Transport Minister, Ms. Sindisiwe Chikunga will give a keynote address during the commemorations as the Department joins the rest of the globe to acknowledge the critical role seafarers play in preserving the oceans.
The day will feature panel discussions and exhibitions and delegates will also get an opportunity to network with industry experts, policymakers and seafarers.
