The TMPD Overload Control Unit (OCU) and Freeway Unit continue to intensify targeted operations aimed at enforcing load compliance in the City of Tshwane. On Sunday, 21 December 2025, operations were conducted on N1 and N4.
The operations yielded significant results as several vehicles on their way to Zimbabwe and Mozambique were intercepted and taken to TMPD Weighbridges for compliance checks. A total of 48 vehicles were inspected, with 27 vehicles found to be extremely overloaded, and 2 unroadworthy trailers deemed unfit to carry a load were discontinued and impounded.
The majority of vehicles weighed were found to be exceeding their required loading capacity, posing a severe risk to the safety of the driver and other road users. Overloaded vehicles significantly impact a driver’s ability to brake and manoeuvre, especially during high traffic and wet weather conditions.
The TMPD strategically deploys its units across all major routes to ensure that every vehicle is compliant, and road safety is non-negotiable.
