Five people were injured, three seriously, following a head on collision involving an Isuzu truck and a Mercedes Benz Sprinter taxi on the R102 near Belverdere in Tongaat this morning.
At approximately 04:42 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by passing motorists reporting the collision. Upon arrival both vehicles were found lying on their sides.
The jaws of life had to be used to free three occupants of the truck who were seriously injured and trapped in the vehicle.Two occupants of the taxi sustained moderate injuries. The injured were stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital by paramedics from private as well as the provincial ambulance service.
A section of the R102 leading up to the scene had to be closed resulting in traffic delays.
