The driver of a delivery vehicle was robbed at the scene of a collision on the M27 near Waterloo – KZN this afternoon.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene at approximately 17:59. On arrival, Reaction Officers met with the driver of a white Kia K2700 bakkie. He explained that he was travelling in the direction of Verulam – KZN when he ran over a scrap collector who suddenly attempted to flee across the road.
He stopped on the side of the road to provide assistance but was surrounded by approximately 20 individuals. They robbed him of R300 in cash and his cellphone. The group thereafter stole the battery from his vehicle and fled in an unknown direction.
The pedestrian sustained moderate injuries in the collision.
