This morning, ten people were killed and numerous others injured when a gas truck exploded on Railway Street in Boksburg.
ER24 and numerous other services were immediately dispatched to the scene. On arrival, medics found a smouldering truck under a bridge with several bodies lying nearby.
The Provincial Fire Services began to extinguish the blaze while medics tended to the patients.
Medics assessed the patients and found seven people had sustained fatal injuries in the explosion. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead.
Approximately forty other patients were tended to on the scene, several of them in critical condition.
Medics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support before they were transported to various hospitals for further care.
Later reports showed that two critically injured patients succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
It is understood that several buildings, including a nearby hospital, were damaged in the explosion.
The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
