
On Thursday 22 May 2025, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, apprehended two (2) suspects for possession of suspected stolen vehicle and other charges in Germiston and Johannesburg.
Officers received information about the location of a suspected vehicle stolen in Germiston. They proceeded to the identified address, where they spotted the vehicle matching the given description on the M2 freeway direction Johannesburg, just before George Gough offramp, with one male occupant. Officers tactically stopped the vehicle and upon questioning the sixty(60)-year-old driver who failed to provide Officers with satisfactory reasons for being in possession of the truck. Officers conducted a systems check on the vehicle, which came back positive with a Sebenza SAPS CAS number.
Meanwhile, in Germiston Officers apprehended a fifty(50)-year-old suspect, that was left behind by his accomplices while attempting to hijack and kidnap a motorist driving a white Hino truck on the N3 freeway, while with the suspects were travelling in a Charcoal VW Polo Tsi. Officers acted when they saw the group trying to force the driver of the white Hino truck into their vehicle, as
Officers received backup from the SAPS Flying Squad, the suspects fled in the Polo leaving one of their crew members behind that was intercepted by Officers.
The victim proceeded with Officers to Germiston SAPS to open a case for attempted truck hijacking and kidnapping. Officers immediately handcuffed the suspects that were escorted to JEPPE and Germiston SAPS.
The duo facing charges of possession of stolen vehicle, attempted truck hijacking and kidnapping. They are expected to appear at the Johannesburg and Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
