Bloemfontein Flying Squad and Trompsburg Highway Patrol continue to clampdown on drug and dagga trade on the major routes in the South as 5 suspects were arrested near Edenburg.

On Sunday 28 July 2024 at about 20:30, Bloemfontein Flying Squad members received an intelligence led information about a white truck travelling on the N1 from Gauteng to Cape Town, distributing dagga to vehicles.

The members swiftly responded to the information assisted by Trompsburg Highway Patrol. The truck was spotted parked with a white VW polo next to it before the town of Edenburg. The team approached and found 5 suspects, the driver of the truck and four occupants from the VW vehicle.

The vehicle was searched but nothing was found in it, then the members started searching the truck and the trailer. In the trailer and between boxes of stock allegedly in transit to Cape Town, members found four large boxes of Swati dagga with an estimated street value of +/- R1 million.

While processing the arrest for the 38-year-old driver of the truck, the occupants of the white VW offered a large sum of money to the police with the intention to avoid arrest.

The suspects were notified that their actions constitute corruption. The four VW polo occupants aged between 25 and 37 years old, were also arrested for corruption and the money was booked in as evidence.

All five suspects were arrested for dealing in dagga and corruption. They will appear in the Edenburg Magistrate court soon.
