A 34-year-old suspect was arrested in Sun City Village in Ermelo on Tuesday 15 April 2025, for possession of suspected stolen coal, during Operation Vala Umgodi as it continues to make an impact. The suspect was apprehended after members conducted a stop-and-searches around the area.
The Combat team stopped and searched an Isuzu bakkie with Mpumalanga registration number plates. It was during this time when the team discovered that the bakkie was loaded with 16 bags of suspected stolen coal.
During the arrest of the suspect, the team managed to confiscate the consignment from the said bakkie.
The suspect is facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen coals. He is expected to appear at the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court soon.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi has commended members for the exceptional work done through Operation Vala Umgodi.
