A 30-year-old male suspect was arrested by Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, pointing of a firearm, reckless and negligent driving, failing to stop and driving without a driving licence.

On Wednesday 12 April 2022 whilst conducting crime prevention patrols on the N12 west in Naturena, officers spotted a White Nissan NP200 driving recklessly, weaving in and out of traffic, using the emergency lane to overtake other vehicles.

Officers gave chase and caught up with the reckless driver. They activated their blue lights and sirens to signal to the driver to stop, but he continued driving recklessly.

Officers drove next to the driver, who then pointed a firearm at them. Backup was called and the driver was boxed in. In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect bumped into the patrol vehicle.

Officers alighted out of the vehicle to arrest the suspect. The suspect started resisting arrest, and officers had to use minimum force to restrain him.

The suspect was eventually contained, and when officers requested the license to possess a firearm, they found that the suspect did not have one in his possession.

The suspect was arrested on multiple charges and detained at Eldorado park SAPS.
