The West Rand District Crime Intelligence, in collaboration with Krugersdorp #VisiblePolicing members, arrested a 42-year-old suspect and recovered a large quantity of suspected stolen copper cables valued at approximately R700 000 during an intelligence-driven operation on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
Police received information about a white Isuzu truck allegedly being used to transport stolen copper cables from Rustenburg to a scrapyard in Krugersdorp. The information was verified and operationalised, and the identified vehicle was subsequently spotted and intercepted in the Tarlton area.
Upon searching the truck, police discovered a large quantity of copper cables suspected to have been stolen. The driver was arrested and is facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
The South African Police Service reaffirms its commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and combating the theft and illegal trade of copper cables. The theft and vandalism of copper cables can disrupt essential services, affect businesses and communities, and cause significant financial losses.
