On Tuesday, 10 June 2025, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team Unit Officers, in conjunction with Gauteng Traffic, recovered a reported stolen truck with two (2) semi-trailers and arrested two (2) suspects aged thirty-one (31) and twenty-five (25) for possession of a stolen vehicle, in the Benoni area
While conducting law enforcement duties on the R23 roadway, Officers spotted a suspicious white Freightliner truck and stopped it for a routine inspection. During the inspection, the Officers found that the truck was occupied by two (2) foreign male nationals, and the semi-trailers were loaded with empty cans to be delivered in Cape Town. The vehicle was verified, and tested positive for theft, reported in Grasmere.
Both suspects were arrested and detained at the Brakpan Police Station, pending further investigation.
