The Sekhukhune District Vala Umgodi Task Team, in collaboration with Burgersfort SAPS, Traffic Police, and Immigration officials, conducted a targeted multi-agency operation in Burgersfort on Tuesday, 29 July 2025. The purpose of the operation was to address ongoing concerns related to illegal immigration, illegal trade, and criminal activities in the area.

The operation focused on hotspot areas, the Central Business District (CBD), liquor outlets, and known illegal immigration routes. The joint efforts resulted in the arrest of twelve individuals, of whom eleven were detained for illegal immigration violations, while one was charged for possession of illicit cigarettes and another for assaulting police officers during the operation.

During the raid, the police confiscated approximately 500 cartons of illegal cigarettes and 200 loose cigarette filters, valued at an estimated R14 000. These illicit products pose significant health and safety risks to the community and contribute to criminal activities.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing. The South African Police Service remains committed to combating illegal activities and ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the province.

The police urge community members to report any suspicious activities and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime. Community involvement is crucial in creating a safer environment for everyone.
