A 17-year-old schoolboy was left in a critical condition after he was run over by a tipper truck along Liverpool Road in Benoni.
Shortly before 2 pm, paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the scene where they found the boy with multiple injuries under the truck. Rescuers found that he had sustained various fractures and possible internal injuries. Once freed from underneath the truck, they were able to stabilise him and rush him to the Life Glynnwood Hospital for further medical care.
Another 17 year old, was also injured in the incident. He sustained only minor injuries. Paramedics treated him on the scene and later transported him to the same hospital.
Bystanders explained to paramedics that one of the boys apparently tried to flag down a taxi when the truck swerved and collided with them. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known.
