Putting hot ash or explosives inside the 240L waste bin is not only damaging to the waste container but may also pose a danger to the officials picking up the waste bins.
Today, waste removal officials in Edenvale had to urgently off-load the waste truck doing round collections due to an explosion inside the waste compactor truck, which was caused by domestic waste that contained smouldering material.
There were no reported injuries or damages to the waste compactor truck.
Customers are urged to separate waste at the source, not put hot ash, garden waste or rubble waste inside the waste bins.
