The multidisciplinary Vala Umgodi operation arrested 20 suspects for contravening immigration laws during a series of disruptive operations conducted on Friday, 07 February 2025, across Limpopo province.

These operations primarily targeted illegal mining hotspots. The task teams, which consist of the South African Police Service (SAPS), the South African National Defence Force, the Department of Home Affairs, and other law enforcement agencies, conducted a series of raids in various areas across the Capricorn, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Vhembe, and Waterberg districts.

The 20 arrested suspects, representing various nationalities, were found to be in the country illegally or in possession of invalid or expired immigration documentation. They were arrested under the provisions of the Immigration Act and have been detained for further investigation.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before various courts in Limpopo for processing and possible deportation, as their immigration status is assessed.
