Operation Vala Umgodi continue to make strides in illegal mining activities in the province. On Friday, 11 October 2024, the operation was conducted at Rietvallei in Kagiso policing prencict.
The intelligence driven operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects who were charged with unlawful possession of precious metal and contravention of the Immigration Act. Several illegal mining equipment such as phendukas, iron balls, spades, generator, gas cylinder, and stumper pots were also seized.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
