Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: I have just dispatched a highly dedicated team from Road Traffic Inspectorate to Mandeni on the N2 following an accident involving a truck and a car this morning. Unfortunately, one person has died. We will reach out to the families once we have more details.
This accident occured on the same spot where eight young stars lost their lives last Friday morning. We have resolved to have a wreath laying ceremony tomorrow on the same spot.
As an executive authority assigned to lead this Department, I have decided to set aside time over the next four days of mourning to personally comfort and support the families of the eight victims of the horrific accident on the N2 in Mandeni.
Working with a dedicated team from the Department, we will be with the families from the mortuary – to the residences, right to the cemeteries where the victims will be laid to rest.
We thank senior religious leaders, relatives, and neighbours who have offered to join us as we support the bereaved families.
In particular, we thank Traffic Reporter Ayanda Msweli who has arranged highly trained clinicians who will provide psycho-social services during this period of grief.
Working with the Mayor of Ilembe District Municipality, Cllr Thobani Shandu and Mayor of Mandeni Local Municipality, Cllr Thabani Mdlalose, we have finalized all preparations for the memorial service and mass funeral.
For the editorial planning purpose, we wish to draw the attention of the media to the following details:
●Wreath Laying Service
Date: 17 October 2024
Time: 09h00
Venue: Accident Scene between Bridge 17 and 19, Mandeni, N2
●Memorial Service
Date: 17 October 2024
Time: 10h00

During the memorial service tomorrow, together with the families, we will provide details of the funeral service scheduled to take place on Saturday and a Mass Funeral scheduled to take place on Sunday.
