Duma warns owners of trucking companies that they will be arrested as well
Mkhondeni Weighbridge, Pietermaritzburg N3: Our energized team from Road Traffic Inspectorate is systematically implementing #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation in strategic routes this weekend.
At 11h00 I received a report from the RTI team that is rolling out an operation in Mkhondeni Weighbridge.
The following results are a clear indication of a zero tolerance:
●Arrest of three undocumented foreign nationals (Malawi);
●Massive racket involving foreign truck drivers with fraudulent drivers licenses (Swaziland);
●One truck suspended;
●Taxi Driver from Mozambique without a route permit transporting passengers-some of who are Malawians from Ermelo to Durban;
●Execution of eight warrants of arrest.
Some of the truck drivers who tried to avoid detection have been apprehended by our energetic RTI team working with colleagues from the following departments and organisations:-
●SAPS Dog Unit, Vehicle Theft Unit and Highway Patrol Unit;
●Department of Home Affairs – Immigration Unit;
●Department of Labour and Employment;
●Cross Border Road Traffic Inspectorate;
●Umsunduzi Traffic Department;
●N3TC Toll Concession Patrol.
Following the discovery of millions worth of undeclared goods weeks ago, we have taken a decision to intensify our fight against cross-border crime.
We are focusing combating the trafficking of undeclared and illicit goods.
Importantly, we are targeting and impounding trucks without permits.
We have taken a decision to ensure the arrest of the truck companies, as we believe that they are the perpetrators of the violation of the laws of the country.
I have mandated RTI to have no mercy and come hard on individuals violating traffic regulations
