The National Rail Safety Communicators Forum will, on 06 June 2024 commemorate the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) at the Piernaarspoort Level Crossing in Mamelodi. ILCAD is a worldwide initiative to improve awareness of level crossing safety. The campaign has been spearheaded by the UIC, the worldwide railway organisation with the support of the railway community around the world.

Located in the heart of Mamelodi, a township east of Pretoria, the Pienaarspoort Level Crossing provides access to motorists and pedestrians over a line that is operated by PRASA and Transnet Freight Rail.

Members of the National Rail Safety Communicators Forum, which consists of the Railway Safety Regulator, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) and Traxtion will commemorate the day by reinforcing safety messages to train commuters, motorists and pedestrians and emphasise the importance of adhering to rail safety signages when interacting with level crossings, as they continue to claim lives during level crossing occurrences.
