The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety informs motorists that the N1 North, near Mekete lodge Polokwane, has been cleared and is now open to traffic following a motor vehicle accident that occurred this morning.
The accident involved a Volkswagen Polo which was overtaking and collided head on with a loaded truck transporting steel pipes.
Preliminary reports indicated that the male driver of the Polo lost his life at the scene. No injuries reported from the truck.
The Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.
The Department appreciates the patience and cooperation demonstrated by motorists while the road was temporarily closed to allow emergency and law enforcement teams to attend to the scene and conduct the necessary processes.
The Department also acknowledges and appreciates the work of all stakeholders, including law enforcement officials and emergency response teams, for their efforts in managing the situation.
