Pro Med EMS responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident on the N4 highway.

Upon arrival, paramedics found that multiple structures (Transmission Towers or Pylons) holding high-voltage cables running across the highway collapsed causing these cables to hang extremely low over the highway which in turn caused multiple vehicles to collide. The exact cause of the incident remains unknown but it is believed that due to a storm in the area, the strong winds contributed to the collapse of these structures.

Large parts of Pretoria will remain without electricity and the N4 highway is currently closed in both directions at Simon Vermooten Road and Solomon Mahlangu Road.

UPDATE: Multiple transmission towers or pylons were found to have been damaged. Two moderately injured patients were assessed and treated on the scene. They are being transported to the hospital.

UPDATE: Tshwane Emergency Services and Electricity Department are on the scene. The scene is handed over. These departments will coordinate the cleanup and repair operations. The N4 remains closed until further notice.
