The South African Police Service (SAPS) has successfully intercepted a major drug smuggling mission and thanks to members from Border Policing at Lebombo Port of Entry as they arrested a 36-year-old Mozambican national at the Lebombo Border in Komatipoort last night, Friday 28 June 2024, with suspected Crystal Meth drugs to the estimated street value of more than R4.2 Million.

According to the report, on Friday evening around 19:20, the men and women in Blue were conducting routine duties at the Border when a white Toyota minibus came from the side of Mozambique heading into South Africa.

As a norm, members conducted a routine search and it was during this period when they discovered a false apartment in the said kombi.

Upon further investigation, the suspected drugs were found starched and hidden inside the false apartment.

The consignment was weighing at approximately 17,000 grams and the estimated value thereof is at about R4,250,000 (R4.25 million).

The substances were confiscated by the Police for further investigation meanwhile the man was charged for illegal possession of suspected drugs.

The male suspect is expected to appear at the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 01 July 2024.
