Medi Response Advanced life support paramedics together with our search and rescue division and various services are currently on the scene on the N2 near Tinly Manor, where a bus has collided with temporary cement barriers, resulting in a mass casualty.
Paramedics responded to reports of the bus accident, shortly after 03h00. On arrival, it was established that a bus had been travelling from Umzimkulu to Nongoma, when it struck a barrier and overturned.
Crews are working to manage the scene. At this stage triage has indicated that two persons are seriously injured, seven moderately injured and a further 66 have sustained minor injuries.
The jaws of life was used to free one of the seriously injured passengers.
The South African Police Services were on scene and will investigate further.
