A man, believed to be in his 50s, was left seriously injured yesterday afternoon following a collision between a bakkie and truck on the R101 in Paarl, Western Cape.
ER24 paramedics, along with the Metro and Cape Town Fire Services, arrived on the scene at 13h10 to find the bakkie on the side of the road while the truck had come to a stop on the opposite side.
On closer inspection, medics found a man, believed to be in his 50s, lying trapped inside the bakkie. Assessments showed that the man had sustained numerous injuries and was in serious condition.
Cape Town Fire Services had to use specialized rescue equipment to free the man, an operation lasting an hour.
Once freed, medics treated the man and provided him with advanced life support interventions. Once stabilized, the man was transported to Mediclinic Cape Gate for further care.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
