Date: 8th & 9th May 2025

Venue: Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre, Johannesburg

Truck drivers have long faced significant challenges: rising criminal activity, demanding schedules, substandard road and stop infrastructure, and limited healthy food options. These stresses directly affect drivers’ health, well-being, and safety on the roads. It’s time for the industry to come together and address these realities head-on.

What to Expect

• Holistic Wellness Focus: This year’s symposium is designed around four pillars-mental, physical, financial, and technical wellness-offering a wide range of expert-led sessions. Drivers can learn about best practices for mental health, the importance of a balanced diet, strategies for staying alert behind the wheel, and understanding advanced vehicle technologies.

• Hands-On Sessions: Three dedicated wellness rooms will provide drivers with practical tips on financial planning, stress management, physical health, and ongoing technical skills development.

• Medical Screenings: Comprehensive on-site OHS medical check-ups will include optometry services, with free prescription spectacles provided if needed. Previous assessments showed 62% of participating drivers required vision correction-underscoring the importance of regular screenings.

Why This Matters

Heavy vehicles make up only 3.3% of registered road users but are responsible for 9.4% of fatal crashes. Driver fatigue and other preventable risks contribute to these statistics. By focusing on drivers’ overall well-being, we can reduce accidents and keep our roads safer. This event is not just about road safety; it’s about supporting our drivers, their families, and the broader community that depends on them.
