The jaws of life were needed to cut two men free from the truck they were traveling in following a serious motor vehicle collision on the N2 near Queen Nandi Drive this morning.

Emergency services arrived on scene shortly after 11:20 to find two heavy-duty vehicles had collided and overturned, coming to a rest on the left-hand side embankment of the national highway.

Two men from one of the vehicles sustained serious injuries and were found entrapped in the twisted remains of their vehicle. Advanced life support paramedics worked fervently to stabilize the men, whilst rescue technicians cut them free using specialized hydraulic equipment.

Once freed the men were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals for the immediate care they required.

One other man was injured in the collision and was treated and stabilized on scene before being taken through to hospital.

At this stage the cause of the collision is speculative and will form subject of a South African Police Services investigation.

Traffic was severely affected as part of the roadway remained closed to allow emergency services space to work.
